The 4-year degree course in Mechanical Engineering was started in July 2007.Gradually, the department has expanded to offer two years M. Tech program with a specialization in Thermal and Fluid Engineering (TFE) in 2017 and the department started Ph. D. program in 2023. The department constitutes of competent faculty members, who help the students enrich their learning experience through practical/seminars/industrial training/projects, aided by the technical facility of the workshop, state-of-the-art laboratories, and in-house experimental set-ups. Apart from following the academic curriculum, the workshop facilitates the needs of the students in terms of executing works of their B. Tech., M. Tech., and Ph.D. programs. The department also welcomes students from other institutes to complete their academic internship. The motto of the department is “Quality education through practical learning”. Field visits and excursions are arranged for final-year B. Tech. students. The B.Tech program is being continuously accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) from the academic session 2016-17 to academic session 2024-25.
The department aspires to produce qualified and professionally competent Mechanical Engineering graduates who are equipped with fundamental human values and will positively contribute to the betterment of the global economy, entrepreneurship and society.
Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Girijananda Chowdhury University, Assam. We started our journey in the year 2007 with the introduction of B.E program in Mechanical Engineering affiliated to Gauhati University. The department is continuously growing in order to excel in the fields of teaching and research with the addition of M.Tech and PhD courses. We have grown our expertise and competence in Mechanical Engineering curriculum and research with our courses being upgraded and formulated in-line with NEP 2020. Our undergraduate program has been aptly awarded with the prestigious NBA (National Board of Accreditation) accreditation for the academic years 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 with extension for the years 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22. Recently, the NBA accreditation of B. Tech program is further extended for the academic year 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-2025.
We have state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities to support our academic programs and research with excellent funding for research from AICTE, ASTEC, MHRD.
