Mr. Biraj Kr. Borgohain has joined Girijananda Chowdhury University as Chief Finance and Accounts Officer. Mr. Borgohain has an extensive track record in administration and finance. He previously served as Deputy Comptroller, Assam Agricultural University, where a major part of his service period was devoted to the purchase and procurement of stores for Assam Agricultural University. He also looked after the tendering process of foreign equipment, lab equipment and chemicals, as well as the sale of green tea leaves produced in the tea gardens of Assam Agricultural University. At AAU, he performed extensive audit work on various anomalies in pay structures, misuse of funds, appointments, pay fixation and so on, and has been part of a fact-finding committee regarding the same.  Mr. Borgohain has published a number of books including DDO’s Handbook and Guide for DDO, which explain the various financial rules pertaining to the execution of duty by a Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO). He has a B.Sc. Honours from Science College, Jorhat, as well as a first class MBA (financial management) from Venkateswara Open University. Among his varied interests are social service for the destitute and writing on Assamese literature. He has consistently engaged in social work for homeless people who live on the footpath and under flyovers in various parts of Guwahati through an organisation named CHARITY.
