NSS is a flagship program under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, aimed at fostering a spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility among the youth. At GCU, we embrace the ethos of NSS wholeheartedly, recognizing its pivotal role in holistic student development and nation-building.

History of National Service Scheme:

The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in India in 1969 on the occasion of the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi, with the primary objective of engaging students in community service and nation-building activities. Inspired by the principles of selfless service and social responsibility advocated by Gandhiji, NSS quickly gained momentum and evolved into one of the largest youth volunteer programs in the world. Over the years, NSS has undergone significant expansion and refinement, adapting to the changing needs of society while remaining true to its core values.

Mission:

The mission of NSS at GCU is to nurture a culture of civic engagement, empathy, and social responsibility among its student body. Through meaningful service-oriented activities, we endeavor to instill in our students a sense of duty towards their communities and society at large. Our goal is to empower students to become proactive agents of positive change, contributing to the welfare and upliftment of society while honing their leadership skills and fostering personal growth.

Aim:

NSS at GCU aims to provide students with opportunities for personal and professional development through community service. By actively participating in NSS activities, students not only contribute to the welfare of society but also undergo personal transformation, developing into conscientious individuals equipped with leadership skills and a deep understanding of social issues.

Objectives:
 Promote Social Responsibility: NSS at GCU seeks to cultivate a deep sense of social responsibility among students, inspiring them to actively engage in initiatives that address pressing social issues and contribute to community development.
 Facilitate Community Engagement: Through various outreach programs and initiatives, NSS encourages students to immerse themselves in the realities of local communities, fostering mutual understanding, empathy, and solidarity.
 Develop Leadership Skills: NSS provides students with opportunities to take on leadership roles and responsibilities, enabling them to enhance their leadership abilities, teamwork, and communication skills while organizing and executing social service projects.
 Promote Sustainable Development: Environmental conservation and sustainable development are integral aspects of NSS at GCU. Students are encouraged to undertake projects that promote eco-friendly practices, conservation of natural resources, and environmental stewardship.
 Foster National Integration: By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect for diversity, NSS plays a crucial role in promoting national integration, communal harmony, and social cohesion.

Motto:

The motto of NSS, “Not Me, But You,” encapsulates its core values of selflessness, empathy, and collective action. It reflects the spirit of volunteerism and altruism that drives NSS, emphasizing the importance of serving others and working together for the greater good of society. At GCU, we uphold this motto as a guiding principle, inspiring our students to embody the spirit of service and contribute positively to the communities they serve. In conclusion, NSS at GCU is not just a program; it is a philosophy—a commitment to nurturing socially responsible citizens and compassionate leaders who will make a meaningful difference in the world. We invite all students to join us on this transformative journey of service, leadership, and social impact, as we strive to create a brighter future for our nation and beyond.
