SC/ST Cell

The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) Cell in an institute promotes the special interests of students in the reserved category. It is expected to provide special inputs in areas where the students experience difficulties.

Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have been identified as the two most backward groups of Indian Society. They include all the castes, races or tribes, which have been socially, economically and educationally backward. The cell has been established to support and to bring students from such communities in the main stream.

The SC/ST cell of the college was established with the purpose to empower the SC/ST students in the college. Students are also encouraged to enroll for career orientation programs, which would equip them with the necessary skills to choose a career option.

OBJECTIVES:

 

    • To counsel and guide SC/ ST students and help them to manage academic and personal issues of college life effectively.

    • To ensure provisions of an environment where all such students feel safe and secure.

    • To provide prompt counselling for any emotional emergencies arising on account of any event at the campus.

    • To provide the mechanism to redress the grievance of SC/ST students, if any.

    • To ensure protection and reservation as provided in the constitution of India.

    • To arrange for special opportunities to enhance the career growth.

    • To aware the SC/ST students regarding various scholarships program under State and Central Govt. schemes.

    • To take such follow up measures to achieve the objectives and targets laid down by the Govt. of India and the UGC.

    • Circulate GOI and Commission’s decisions and to collect regularly, on an annual basis, information regarding admissions to candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the University for different courses, in suitable forms prescribed, by a stipulated date, and to take follow up action, where required.

    • To communicate with the students and motivate them for better future planning.

FUNCTIONS:

According to the UGC Guidelines of 1998, following are the functions of the Cell:

 

    • To circulate GOI and Commission’s decisions and to collect regularly, on an annual basis, information regarding course-wise admissions to candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the College for different courses, in suitable forms prescribed, by a stipulated date, and to take follow up action, where required;

    • To circulate GOI orders and Commission’s decisions and to collect information in respect of appointment, training of these communities in teaching and non-teaching posts in the College, in suitable forms by a stipulated date and take follow up action where required;

    • To collect reports and information regarding the GOI orders on the various aspects of education, training and employment of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, for evolving new policies or modifying existing policy by the Commission;

    • To analyse information on admissions, education, training and employment of SCs and STs, and prepare reports and digests for onward transmission to the Ministry of Human Resource Development/University Grants Commission and such other authorities as may be required

    • To deal with representations received from Scheduled Castes and Tribes candidates regarding their admission, recruitment, promotion and other similar matters in College;

    • To monitor the working of the remedial coaching scheme, if any.

    • To function as a Grievances Redressal Cell for the grievances of SC/ST students and employees of the College and render them necessary help in solving their academic as well as administrative problems.

    • Any other work assigned from time to time to promote higher education among these two communities suffering economic, social and educational deprivations.
