ISTE STUDENTS’ CHAPTER

Girijananda Chowdhury University, Assam (previously Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology, Guwahati) have become the member of ISTE by registering in the year 2013 vide certificate number IM2284. The Institute had opened the Students chapter by registering 472 students on September 2014. Then periodically the students have registered for their membership at ISTE. Since inception, all students have registered from the institute. A total of 53 faculties have registered for the Lifetime Membership of ISTE.

The Institute ISTE student chapter had also successfully conducted the Regional Annual Students’ Convention 2014, ISTE, Assam and Eastern States Section on 6^th September’2014. Various Institutions across the North-Eastern part of India participated in the Regional Convention. Shri Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai, the then Vice President, ISTE, presided over the convention as a chief guest. The similar section level convention has also held on 2017 at this Institute.

The students and the faculties have also participated in the ISTE – Srinivasa Ramanujan Mathematical Competitions 2015 and 2016. The Institute ISTE student chapter also organized Seminar on ‘CLOUD COMPUTING’ on 13^th November 2015. A considerable participation made the event highly successful. The Talk by Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati has highly enlightened the scope cloud computing in the present day technology. Thereafter, the students’ chapter also organized a National Symposium on ‘Recent threats and opportunities in the field of engineering’ on 22^nd October 2016 at GIMT campus. The keynote address was given by the Chief Guest Dr. Bhabaranjan Sarmah, Vice President, Indian Society for Technical Education.

The Institute ISTE student chapter plans and executes events every year coordinated by Mr. Alokojjwal Das, Assistant Professor, Dept. of ECE. The Institute ISTE student chapter received the “Best Student Chapter of ISTE Assam & Eastern Section” award on the basis of activities carried out during the year 2015. The Award consists of a medallion and a citation. The presentation of ISTE Awards was made during the Inaugural function of 18^th ISTE Annual Students Convention to be held on ‘30th October, 2015’ at ‘Kings College of Engineering, Punalkulam Dist. (Tamil Nadu).

The chapter organized its first event under the University: a talk and Poster presentation competition on the topic “The role of Engineers in solving real world problems” on 3^rd April 2024.
