Department of Civil Engineering under the School of Engineering and Technology of Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU)Assam, from the academic year 2023-24.

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in August 2014 under Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology, with affiliation to Assam Science and Technology University. The department began functioning as the “Department of Civil Engineering” under the School of Engineering and Technology of Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU)Assam, from the academic year 2023-24.

Department of Civil Engineering, Girijananda Chowdhury University, Guwahati, Assam provides the essential fundamental concepts and in-depth knowledge about various infrastructural facilities in Civil Engineering to the budding Engineers in order to meet the requirements in the industry. Department prepares the young minds to become an entrepreneur and as job providers not the job seekers. In addition to that , department equips our primary stakeholders as a solution makers for the real time problem in the society.

The 4 year undergraduate course in Civil Engineering is offered under the university’s specialised School of Engineering and Technology.

The programme has a curriculum that includes practical, seminar, training, projects etc. covering a broad spectrum of engineering: starting from geotechnical sciences to structural engineering, environmental to hydraulics, transportation to hydrology. Thus a number of different fields of engineering come under the single domain to make Civil Engineering as the most versatile branch of engineering. The department is very much concerned about the overall development of the budding civil technocrats by giving exposure of practical and real life problems through organizing construction-site visits and industrial training, conducting expert lectures by renowned personalities of different fields apart from the well-equipped laboratory facilities.

Entry requirements

  1. Must have passed the Higher Secondary (HS) examination of the AHSEC or any equivalent examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the subjects, in one seating.
  2. He/ She must secure at least 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (40% for SC & ST candidates).
  3. Must not be more than 21 years or not less than 17 years of age as on 1st August, 2022. The Upper age limit is relaxable to 22 years in case of B.Sc. passed candidates. For SC/ST candidates, the upper age limit may be relaxed by 3 years.
  4. Must be mentally and physically fit and must possess a good moral character.

Completing an M.Tech., Civil (Structural Engineering) provides various career opportunities. Graduates can work as structural engineers, design consultants, or project managers in the construction industry. They can also pursue research and development roles, teaching positions in academia, or find employment in government organizations.

Entrepreneurship: With a strong background in structural engineering and an MTech degree, Students may consider starting their own consulting firm or construction company. Higher Education: If a student has a passion for Research, teaching and sharing his/her knowledge, pursuing a career in academia is an option. By completing a Doctorate degree (in India or Abroad), students can explore teaching positions in universities and colleges, imparting their expertise to aspiring civil engineering students.
