In the year 2022-23, the department has been established as “Department of Computer Application” under the School of Engineering and Technology of Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Assam.
The department aims to make a educational centre by producing high quality ethically and morally affluent computer professionals conversant with the state-of-the-art technology to cater the needs of ever changing industry and society.
It is my privilege to be a founder HoD in the department of computer application for more than a decade at Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology. The department has taken every step to build the academics and infrastructure facilities for the students enrolled in UG and PG Courses. Students of the departments are also acts as agents for giving their valuable feedbacks for the development of the facilities in the departments.
It is matter of happiness that the Alumnus of the department are placed in different national and international organisations and giving their service in the field of Computer Science and applications for the growth of country and world as a whole.
It is my hope that the department will act as one of the prominent educational centre for students as well as computer professional of the state as well country as a whole.
At present the department is offering a postgraduate programme i.e. Master of Computer Application which is a three year programme and includes course work, summer project and dissertation. The course is designed to develop appropriate skills and impart comprehensive knowledge in the field of computer applications. It covers pure computer subjects´ viz., Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Organization, Graph Theory, Object Oriented Programming and Design, Computer Graphics, Software Engineering, Formal Language and Automata Theory, Computer Networks, and many more. It provides sound academic base from which an advanced career in computer applications including the latest developments keeping pace with the industry can be developed.
Moreover the Programme has the provision for Lateral Entry admission in the 3rd semester as per the norms of AICTE and Assam Science and Technology University, Guwahati.
The department has started 3 years of Bachelor of Computer Application (B. C. A.) programme from the year 2017. Bachelor of Computer Applications (B. C. A.) is an undergraduate degree course to start a career in computer science and its application areas. The duration of the course is 3 years and divided into 6 semesters
