Dr. Upasana Sarmah is a passionate educator specializing in cybersecurity and machine learning, with particular interest in Web-based attack detection and malware detection. She completed her Ph.D. from Tezpur University in 2024, focusing on the detection of Web-based attacks using machine learning techniques. She also holds an M.Tech in Information Technology (2017, Tezpur University) and a B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering (2014, Gauhati University), securing top-3 ranks in both examinations, and has qualified the NTA-NET (Assistant Professor & Ph.D) examination.

Dr. Sarmah brings both teaching and research experience to her field, having served as an Assistant Professor (Guest) and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Tezpur University. She worked as a Junior and Senior Research Fellow under an MHRD-sponsored Center of Excellence project on Machine Learning Research and Big Data Analysis (MLRBDA). Subsequently, she worked as a researcher on MeitY sponsored projects Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA), and Malware Detection using Statistical and Machine Learning Approaches. Her research has been published in respected international journals and conferences, including the Journal of Network and Computer Applications, the International Journal of Information Security, and Springer Nature Computer Science, with her work on cross-site scripting (XSS) attack detection, malware classification, and cyber-physical system security earning wide recognition. She also actively contributes to the research community as a peer reviewer for journals such as Scientific Reports (Springer Nature) and others. Beyond her research, she is passionate about teaching, and enjoys music and reading in her free time.
