About the Library 

Bina Chowdhury Central Library, GCU Assam was formed by merging earlier GIMT Library & GIPS Library in the year 2018 with the loving memory of late Bina Choudhury, founder president of Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society (SSAS). It is located at the ground floor & basement area of the boys hostel of its campus and it occupies total carpet area of = 9503.68 sq. ft. in where main Library occupies the 3021.92 sq. ft. carpet area and Reading Room (120 seating capacity) has

Rules for Lending Books:

  1. The Privilege of borrowing books from the library is restricted to the registered members only.
  2. Each member will have one Library Card.
  3. Library Card is not transferable.
  4. Members must come to the library personally and tender his/her Library Card at Circulation Counter at the time of the transaction.
  5. The Librarian may recall any book from the member at any time.
  6. Loose issues of Journals/Periodicals are not meant for an issue.
  7. A Library Clearance Certificate may be issued to members only on returning all books borrowed and surrendering the Library Card.
  8. A fine of Rs. 2/- day will be charged as Late Fine if the Borrowers do not return/ renew the books as per the rule of the library. Moreover, if the fines cross the maximum limit of Rs. 500.00 then the Borrower’s Membership will be temporarily suspended.
  9. The loss of the Library Card should be reported immediately in writing to the Librarian and a fine of Rs. 50/- will be charged for the re-issue of a new card.

  10. The Loss of books borrowed by a user in his/her custody, the borrower shall be liable to replace the book or bear the cost of replacement is not done within 15 days, the defaulter will be charged as follows.
    1. Three times the cost of the book if the book is in print.
    1. Four times the cost of the book, if the book is out of print.
    2. If the book of a multi-volume set is lost or damaged, the member concerned shall be liable to replace the whole set or pay the cost of the same on the above line.

General Rules:

  1. All kinds of personal belongings except notebooks are supposed to be kept at the Property Counter at the entrance.
  2. Scan your ID Card in the Library Attendance System kept at the entrance before entering the library.
  3. Keep Silence is a must inside the library.
  4. Member shall not smoke or spite in any part of the library.
  5. Members are not allowed to carry eatables/drinks inside the library premises.
  6. Readers are advised not to leave their valuable items like money wallet, passport, credit card etc. at the property counter.
  7. While browsing books, no book should be replaced by the user on the stack themselves. Users are requested to use the OPAC facility provided by Library to search a book available in the library.
  8. The physical condition of the book should be good while checking out. Mutilation of pages if found must be brought to the notice of the circulation in charge. Otherwise, the borrower himself/herself shall be responsible for the mutilation of the book if detected afterwards.
  9. Underlining, marking, folding of pages, etc. in the book is strictly prohibited.
  10. Upon any infringement of the library rules, members shall forfeit privileges of admission and membership of the library.
  11. The Librarian reserves the right to suspend, or delinquent membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving indecently.
  12. The members caught tearing of pages/stealing books or otherwise mutilating books will be suspended forthwith from using library facilities and further disciplinary action will be initiated against him/her by the University.     

Library Opening hour:

Library remains open from 8.30 a.m. – 7.30 p.m. in all workings days.

A)Subscribed E-Resource:

Subscribed e-resources of Central Library include the resources that can be accessed by Central Library members only. These resources are fully IP based, so users are able to access these resources inside the college campus. For remote access of these resources users of the library are requested to contact the Librarian.

A1. DELNET ( http://www.delnet.in/ ): DELNET stands for Developing Library Network (formerly known as Developing Library Network). It was established with the main objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries.

  1. B) Open Access E-Resource:

Open Access E-Resources are the academic articles (research outputs) which are distributed online, free of costs or other barriers, and, with the addition of an open license applied to promote reuse. The open access E-resources can be accessed by going through the link given below:

National Digital Library of India – NDLI ( https://www.ndl.gov.in/ ): Ministry of Human Resource Development under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology has initiated the National Digital Library (NDL) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility.

Directory of Open Access Journals- DOAJ  ( https://doaj.org/ ): DOAJ is an online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals.

Open Access Journals Search Engine- OAJSE ( http://www.oajse.com ): The Open Access Journals Search Engine (OAJSE) service covers free, full text, quality controlled journals.

NISCAIR Online Periodicals Repository ( http://nopr.niscair.res.in): Here users can access full test articles from research journals published by CSIR-NISCAIR. NOPR also hosts three Popular Science Magazines viz. Science Reporter (SR), Vigyan Pragati (VP) & Science Ki Duniya (SKD), and a Natural Products Repository (NPARR).

Free ebooks by Project Gutenberg  (  https://www.gutenberg.org/  ): Project Gutenberg offers over 49,000 free eBooks: choose among free epub books, free kindle books, download them or read them online.

Shodhganga (Indian ETD Repository   ( https://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in ): Access to Full text Ph.D Thesis submitted to universities in India.

e-PG Pathshala (  http://epgp.inflibnet.ac.in  ): e-PG Pathshala contains high quality, curriculum-based interactive content in different subjects across all disciplines of social sciences, arts, fine arts & humanities, natural & mathematical sciences, linguistics and languages.
