James H. Zothantluanga joined the Department of Pharmacognosy, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Girijananda Chowdhury University, as an Assistant Professor on 1st September 2025. With more than four years of research experience in phytochemistry, phytoinformatics, preclinical antimalarial research, and ML-aided 2D-QSAR modeling, James works at the exciting intersection of traditional pharmacognosy and modern computational techniques. His research aims to combine classical approaches with cutting-edge in silico tools, advancing the search for new drug candidates. He is skilled in in silicostudies, HPTLC fingerprinting and quantification, as well as in vitro and in vivo antimalarial screening.
James has published three papers from his Ph.D. research work, which have a cumulative impact factor of 12.4, and is expected to be awarded his degree by the end of 2025. A highlight of his doctoral work was a collaboration with an Indonesian scholar, where he co-developed an ML-based QSAR web tool to predict the biological activity of flavonoids against Plasmodium falciparum. This tool was designed to streamline drug discovery by saving time, effort, and resources. His work earned the 3rd Best Oral Presentation Award at an international conference. He was also a recipient of both the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) under the NFST scheme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.
As of September 2025, he has 53 publications with 900+ citations, an h-index of 16 (Google Scholar), 13 (Scopus), and 12 (Web of Science).He has also received national and international recognition for impactful research presentations. James is the founder of a digital education brand and an OJS-based journal, helping to disseminate research knowledge and improve scientific publishing efficiency. James is skilled in using generative AI for web development, policy drafting, and content workflows.Outside academia, he is a passionate content creator who shares engaging educational content tailored for the people of Mizoram. He also enjoys playing basketball and participating in fitness activities for recreation.
