The Department of Sociology and Social Work at Girijananda Chowdhury University admits students to its programmes of studies, which include Undergraduate and Post- Graduate programmes, from across the state and the country, at large. The under graduate and post graduate programmes offered by the department in addition to the theory imparted in the classroom shall focus on components of experiential learning by means of field work, outreach and community engagement activities which are the core strengths of the progamme. The department conducts extensive study on Sociology of Religion, Sociology of Minorities, Sociology of Health, Sociology of Development, Economic Sociology, Social Anthropology, Environmental Sociology, Community Development, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Family and Child Welfare among others.

Our library offers you the scope to further your knowledge and open your minds to the world outside. Interaction and discussion with experts in the field, guest lectures, workshops and seminars shall be ongoing activities and programmes of the department.
In addition to the regular class room lectures, you will also be involved in an array of social activities within the campus and in the neighbourhood communities. You shall be part of all the collaborative initiatives of the department with other organizations and universities to organize conferences, seminars and research activities.
