The Bachelor of Social Work, a 4-year undergraduate programme in line with the provisions of the National Education Policy (2020) is multidisciplinary in approach offering a wide array of core and minor courses for students to choose from. Social Work core programme provides a strong foundation on social work principles, ethics, values, the primary and secondary methods to work with individuals, groups and communities. Students get to specialize in any core area viz., Community Development, Medical and Psychiatry and Family and Child Welfare during the course. In addition, field work practicum, an indispensable aspect of social work education is spread across each semester to enable students apply theoretical knowledge and skills in the field through field placements with NGOs, government organizations and community settings. Scope of taking up research projects according to their area of interest on social issues is also an important component of the curriculum.  Graduating students are henceforth equipped with the knowledge and skills essential to take up careers in social service sectors or pursue their academics by enrolling into the Masters Programme offered in the university.

Special Features of the Department
  • A social service club/society shall be constituted with nominated representatives from the university, department and students who shall be jointly collaborating and initiating programmes, workshops and community engagement activities on a regular basis.
  • The Department shall also adopt one or two villages in the neighbourhood and undertake research activities and interventions on the basis of felt needs and concerns.
