The department also offers foreign language courses for skill-enhancing students. Foreign language learning expands one’s view of the world. The opportunity to get higher education or work abroad is always open to all students. Touching and comparing to other cultures enable students to understand the different senses of value, philosophy, and way of thinking.

Vision

To create global citizens by fostering academic excellence and a supportive environment that nurtures the aesthetics of the English literature and language, along with other foreign languages.

Mission
  • To develop a holistic understanding of the English literature and language encouraging students to explore their creativity and critical thinking.
  • To impart education beyond the classroom using contemporary pedagogical activities—such as, Readers Theatre, Storyboard, Interactive fiction (IF), film screenings, extension activities with other institutions, educational tours—making academics an intellectual and passionate engagement.
  • To use an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to knowledge—with an emphasis on race, class, caste, gender and sexuality, marginality, identity, politics, hegemony, and so on—students would be encouraged to pursue research, analyze and express themselves in ways that enhance their sense of community within the human, social and natural environment.
  • To build confidence, leadership qualities, a sense of responsibility, value and ethics in students by providing them with a conducive environment for their academic, physical and spiritual development.
  • Strengthen the students’ professional opportunities by exposing them to the various foreign languages, literatures, and cultures as a model for success in the global society of the 21st

The Department of English and Foreign Languages visions to embark on a leading role in the region in preparing our students to be critical readers and thinkers through developing their analytical abilities and appreciation of the literary and linguistic productions of their own culture and those of other cultures and communities.

The surrealist painter Salvador Dali once said, “there is only one difference between a madman and me. The madman thinks he is sane. I know I am mad.” Reflecting on Dali’s unconventional way of thinking, the Department of English and Foreign Languages aims at honing the ability of the students to embrace their madness and their passion. To nurture this, we provide a stimulating and vibrant intellectual environment for students and research scholars through a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to literature, popular culture, and language studies.

We offer a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, taking into consideration the NEP 2020 that covers literature, linguistics, visual studies, creative writing, and communication studies while emphasizing the learning of different foreign languages, including certification programs in Japanese. Additionally, prospective PhD research students will have the opportunity to work in an exceptionally wide range of research areas, including gender studies, popular culture, regional and cultural knowledge, and Southeast Asian Studies. Our courses are taught by experienced and enthusiastic faculty members who are passionate about their subjects and are committed to helping each student achieve their full potential. In addition to our academic programs, the Department of English and Foreign Languages also has a vibrant research culture. Our dedicated team of faculty members are active researchers who publish their work in prestigious journals and present at national and international conferences. We encourage our students to participate in research activities and offer them opportunities to work alongside our faculty members on research projects.

As the Head of the Department, I am committed to ensuring that our students receive a world-class education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century. I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our programs, faculty, research, and events.
