On September 24, 2024, the Department of Civil Engineering, Girijananda Chowdhury University, Assam, successfully hosted a Skill Enhancement Workshop on Standard Penetration Test (SPT). Mr. Bhaskar Jyoti Medhi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, coordinated the workshop, which included a demo class and a field demonstration of the SPT.
Mr. Gajen Deka, an expert in the field, was invited to the workshop to explain to the participants how the SPT is carried out in the field to determine the Safe Bearing Capacity (SBC) of the soil and, subsequently, the depth of the foundation. Prof. S. Robert Ravi, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, emphasized the importance of practical training and workshops in Civil Engineering.
The workshop proved to be extremely beneficial for the attendees, and each registered participant was provided with an e-certificate.
