Tezpur: As part of their course curriculum prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), the students of D. Pharm Part-I from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Girijananda Chowdhury University Tezpur campus embarked on an educational field visit on May 11, 2024.
The day-long excursion took the students to various establishments, providing them with practical exposure and hands-on learning experiences. The first stop was the Dekargaon Community Health Centre (CHC), where students observed the functioning of the pharmacy department, including dispensing, storage, and disposal of medications, as well as biomedical waste management practices. They also witnessed biomedical sample collection and analysis procedures. Next, the students visited M/S S.S. Soap Works, a soap manufacturing industry in Tezpur. Here, they gained insights into the production process and different levels of packaging employed for various soap products. Following the industry visit, the group proceeded to the Agnigarh Hills, a historical site rich in flora diversity. As part of their Pharmacognosy studies, the students explored the area and observed the various plant species found there. The final destination was Nabaprabhat Orphanage, where students had the opportunity to interact with the children residing there. They shared their knowledge and engaged in educational activities, fostering a spirit of community service and a heartwarming performance by the children from the orphanage, who showcased their talents through songs and dances, leaving the students inspired and enriched by the experience.
Such field visits are invaluable for our students, as they not only reinforce theoretical concepts but also provide real-world exposure, helping students develop a holistic understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and its societal impact. The educational field visit proved to be a resounding success, equipping the students with practical knowledge, fostering community engagement, and instilling a deeper appreciation for their chosen field of study.
The field visit was led by Mr. Rajat S. Dutta (Asst. Prof., Dept. of Pharmaceutics) and accompanied by Ms. Punamjyoti Das (Asst. Prof., Dept. of Pharmaceutics) and Mrs. Namrata Kaushik (Asst. Prof., Dept. of Pharmacognosy) of GCU-Tezpur campus.
