Workshopon “CyberShiksha – Fundamentals”

Cybersecurity, in today’s digital world, is one of the most prominent domains encompassing various practices and awareness training initiatives. With an aim to promote cybersecurity best practices within society, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Girijananda Chowdhury University, organized a workshop on “CyberShiksha: Fundamentals” in collaboration with the India Future Foundation on 21st March 2024.

The workshop was a joint initiative by Microsoft and the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and was implemented by the India Future Foundation. It aimed to provide free, online, self-learning programs designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of cybersecurity and help them earn certifications from Microsoft and DSCI–NASSCOM.

The workshop was graced by Mridul Kanti Chakraborty, Deputy Superintendent of Assam Police; SI Sanjib Chutia; and Ms. Suranjana Bhattacharyya, Assistant Manager, India Future Foundation, who served as the resource persons.

The police personnel shared multiple real-life cybercrime incidents, illustrating the evolving nature of cyber threats, ranging from data breaches and ransomware attacks to supply chain compromises. They emphasized the importance of protecting computer systems and data from unauthorized access, exploitation, and disruption.

Following this, Ms. Suranjana Bhattacharyya highlighted the importance of cybersecurity in the modern digital landscape, stressing the need for collaboration, vigilance, and proactive approaches to mitigate the risks posed by cyber threats. She also introduced students to the certified courses offered by Microsoft and DSCI–NASSCOM.

The interactive session between the students and the resource persons provided an excellent opportunity to reinforce learning objectives and enhance understanding in the field of cybersecurity. A total of 67 students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering participated in the workshop.
