Biography

Dr. Karobi Handique has joined as an Assistant Professor in the School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, Girijananda Chowdhury University, Tezpur on 22nd October, 2025. She is a dedicated academic and researcher specializing in Horticulture, with a focus on fruit science. She holds a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, where she conducted research on “Nutrient Integration and its Effect on Production, Quality and Shelf Life of Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duchesne) under Assam Condition” contributed to the understanding of integrated nutrient management for horticultural crops. She completed her M.Sc. (Horticulture) and B. Sc. (Agriculture) degrees with distinction from Biswanath College of Agriculture under the same university.
Before joining Girijananda Chowdhury University, she served as an Academic Officer and Assistant Professor at Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai. During her tenure there, she was actively involved in academic administration, curriculum design, examination coordination, and student mentoring. She also taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in horticulture, supervised M.Sc. students in Horticulture, and developed several practical manuals to enhance hands-on agricultural learning.

She has authored and co-authored more than a dozen research papers published in reputed national and international journals. She has also edited books, such as “New Horizons and Advancements in Horticulture” and “Growing of Major Fruit Crops”, authored book chapters, and written popular agricultural articles. She has also published technical bulletins aimed at knowledge dissemination among farmers and students.
She has participated in numerous national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops and has received the Young Women Scientist Award (2023) at the 5th International Conference on “Global Insights on Research and Development in Agriculture, Horticulture and Allied Sciences.” Dr. Handique has also been a recipient of the the Bayer’s Fellowship during her Ph. D. for her academic excellence.
Apart from her research and teaching endeavors, she possesses strong organizational and leadership skills, having served in various student and faculty administrative roles. Her academic interests include plant nutrition, fruit crop physiology, and climate-resilient horticultural practices. She is passionate about advancing sustainable horticultural education and fostering innovation in agricultural research.
