National Mathematics Day celebration at Girijananda Chowdhury University Assam on 22.12.24
National Mathematics Day (22 December)-the birth anniversary of the great Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan was celebrated at the Girijananda Chowdhury University Azara Campus on 22 December 2024. The event was organized by the Department of Mathematics, Girijananda Chowdhury University in collaboration with Assam Academy of Mathematics (AAM).
As a part of celebration, the Department of Mathematics, GCU organized a State Level Prize Money Essay Writing competition in two categories
Category 1: Class V-Class VII
Topic: Ramanujan's Life and Legacy/ ৰামানুজনৰ জীৱন আৰু কৃতি (1000 words) Recipients of 1st Prize- Kusumita Nath, Class VI, South Point School, Guwahati (Rs. 2000/-), 2nd Prize- Arnab Pandit, Class V, Bimala Academy, Jakhalabandha (Rs. 1500/-) and 3rd Prize- Kankana Sarkar, Class-VII, SankardevShishu Niketan, Abhayapuri (Rs. 1000/-)
Category 2: Class VIII-Class XII
Topic: The Beauty of the number Pi (π)/ পাই (π) সংখ্যাটোৰ সৌন্দৰ্য্য (1500 words)
Recipients of 1st Prize - Udipta Sarmah, Class VIII, Khora H.S. School, Lakhimpur (Rs. 2000/-), 2nd Prize- Amal Jyoti Deka, Class XI, Deomornoi H. S. School, Darrang (Rs. 1500/-) and 3rd Prize- Rishitashya Rihan Bharali, Class VIII, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nalbari (Rs. 1000/-)
Apart from the presentation of these prizes, the highlights of the program include the felicitation of four Eminent Teachers contributing in the field of mathematics, awards to the UG and HS Toppers, the distribution of prizes to the prestigious AMO 2024 rank holders by Assam Academy of Mathematics (AAM) and a talk on “Ramanujan: A Seer in Mathematics” by Dr. Dilip Kumar Sarma, Retd. Professor, Department of Mathematics, Cotton University and Former Head, Department of Mathematics, GIMT Guwahati.
An awareness programme on ‘In Search of a Career’ among students of Class XI and XII on 11.11.2024
The Department of Mathematics of Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU) organized an awareness programme on 'In Search of a Career’ among the students of Class XI and XII on 11 November 2024.
The objective of this program was to help students understand the transition from classroom to career and guide them in making decisions about their future after Class XII. Prof. Hemanta Kumar Sarmah, Head of the Department of Mathematics, Gauhati University was the resource person and engaged with the students on the subject so that they grab the opportunity to clarify their thoughts in order to choose a fulfilling career.

About 300 students of Class XI and XII from Pub Kamrup College, Baihata Chariali; Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza; Jalukbari Higher Secondary School, Dharapur Higher Secondary School, Career Plus Academy, Bijoy Nagar and Excel Senior Secondary School, Sipajhar attended the programme.
A Workshop on ‘Mathematics Applications and Related Career’ at D. K. College Mirza on 22.03.2024
The Department of Mathematics, Girijananda Chowdhury University conducted a workshop at D. K. College, Mirza on ‘Mathematics Applications and Related Career’ on March 22, 2024. Dr. Madhumita Mahanta, Assistant Professor & HOD and Dr. Ankur Jyoti Kashyap, Assistant Professor conducted the workshop highlighting on pursuing career after the completion of undergraduate courses with Mathematics and real life applications. Alongwith many other applications, Dr. Ankur Jyoti Kashyap presented the Lotka–Volterra predator–prey model, which is a pair of first order nonlinear differential frequently used to describe the dynamics of biological systems in which two species interact, one as a predator and the other as prey. The students of the department of Mathematics attended the workshop. Dr. Nabajyoti Das, Principal, D. K. College also addressed the gathering and encouraged students to attend such workshops frequently to learn and enjoy the beauty of Mathematics in Nature
