Biography

Dr. Rashidul Alam is an Assistant Professor with expertise in Environmental Science and Engineering, specializing in water quality analysis, environmental nanotechnology, hydrological studies and transportation engineering. He is currently serving at Girijananda Chowdhury University since August 2024. Prior to this, he worked as an Assistant Professor at Himalayan University from December 2021 to August 2024, and as a Teaching Associate at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Arunachal Pradesh from July 2019 to December 2021.

Dr. Alam obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from NERIST, following his M.Tech  in the same discipline from the same institute. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Gauhati University.

Before entering full-time academia, he gained professional industry experience as a Site Engineer at Purbanchal Supplier & Contractors from July 2018 to December 2019, where he was involved in project supervision and practical civil engineering works, providing valuable field-level insights that complement his academic work.

His research interests include water and wastewater treatment, nanomaterials for environmental applications, heavy metal removal and detection, hydrological modelling, and disaster management. His work includes research on development of nanomaterial-based systems for the efficient removal of heavy metals from wastewater, the design of fluorescent carbon dot sensors for sensitive detection of heavy metal contaminants, and research on the design and development of Intensity–Duration–Frequency curves for hydrological analysis of the Guwahati watershed.
