Dr Rohan Basu joined the Department of Mass Communication as an Assistant Professor in March 2024. At present, he is teaching introductory courses on Sociology, Sociology of India and Digital Humanities, apart from working on the newly set up Department of Mass Communication at Girijananda Chowdhury University. His work focuses on tracing the specific narrative codes operative in Hindi cinema, Indian television and print journalism as well as tracking the increasing levels of polarization in mass media and social media, globally as well as in reference to the Indian context. In addition, he is interested in Aristotelian virtue ethics, specifically the idea that ethics is a form of excellence and professional & technical excellence are themselves grounded in ethics.
