Dr Kamal Das has joined the Department of Botany, School of Natural Scienceas an Assistant Professor on September 2023. At present, he isteaching MSc Botany and setting up the department for the current as well as upcoming academic years. Moreover, he is going to guide PhD student as a supervisor.
Prior to this, heworked as a post-doctoral fellow at Institute of Advanced Study in Science & Technology (IASST), PaschimBoragaon, Guwahati-781035 under the mentorship of Dr. N.C. Talukdar (Ex-Director, IASST)for morethan 4.5 years. He has experience of working in different Jhum agricultural fields of Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Assam. A project was sanctioned to him as a DBT-RA post-doctoral fellow, project entitled- “Climate resilient marker-assisted generation of prospectivegermplasm for wide adaptability of Muga silkworm and quality and quantity enhancement of silkproduction. After that he was engaged as a Scientist-C in a research foundation named Baba Kinaram Research Foundation, Sahadatpura, Mau, Uttar-Pradesh-275101 for 2 years.
Dr. Dashas done hisPhD in Botany under the supervision of Prof.ShailendraGoel, where he learnt and gained expertise in plant molecular biology in the presence of several internationally renowned teachers and researchers at the Dept. of Botany, University of Delhi (North Campus) Delhi-110007. As a doctoral candidate, Dr. Das was involved in finding sex-linked markers in an economically important plant known as Seabuckthorn (Hippophaerhamnoides) which is present in different geographical location of Leh, Laddakh (Jammu & Kashmir). His research work resulted in several important findings and publications. In his PhD tenure, he got the opportunity to work on filed in an extreme climatic conditions prevailed in Leh, Laddakh. He has also participated in several National & International conferences & workshops.
His under-graduation (BSc) was in Botany from B. Borooah College, Guwahati, Assam 781007. He then carried out his post-graduation (MSc) in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBBT) from the Dept. of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Tezpur University, Napaam, Tezpur, Assam 784028.He did hisschooling from Govt. Boy’s H.S & M.P. School, Jorhat. Throughout his school life, he was involved in several academic and extra-curricular activities where he received several accolades.
Teaching for him is a passion and a noble profession.Alongside, he is a keen researcher in plant molecular biology. He welcomes individuals who want to explore the world of Plant Molecular Biology in different domains and want to be a part of his journey.
