Dr. Jyoti Prasad Deka joined the Department of Physics as an Assistant Professor in August 2023. At present, he is teaching the curriculum courses of Basic Thermodynamics and Introductory Physics-1. Prior to this, he worked as a Maria de Maeztu Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems, University of the Balearic Islands, Spain and as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, Pub Kamrup College. In Spain, he worked on the EU funded project titled ‘Adaptive Optical Dendrites’ which explores the implementation of dendritic computation in optical systems such as multimode optical fibers and optoelectronic oscillators.
Jyoti completed his PhD from the Department of Physics, IIT Guwahati under the supervision of Prof. Amarendra Kumar Sarma in 2019. In his PhD, he worked on the complex spatio-temporal dynamics that emerges in non-Hermitian optical systems. Jyoti has done his MSc in Physics (with specialization in Nonlinear Dynamics and Complex Systems) from the University of Delhi. His BSc is in Physics from Hans Raj College, University of Delhi. During BSc, he was offered the Science Academics Summer Research Fellowship to work in the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2011.
As of now, he is exploring the implications of the unsupervised machine learning technique known as Input-Correlations Only (ICO) Learning in medical conditions such as Atrial Fibrillation in Cardiology and also in the prediction of deviation from Identical Synchronization of chaotic time-series data. He has plans to investigate the implications of ICO Learning in phenomenon such as quantum synchronization in optomechanical systems. Apart from this, he is completing his pending manuscripts that explores rich nonlinear phenomena such as transient chaos, extreme events, and anti-phase synchronization of chaos.
