Biography

Dr. Birina Bhuyan is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, GCU. She obtained her B.Sc. from Cotton College in 2014 and M.Sc. in Botany from Bodoland University in 2016, where she secured the first position. She pursued her Ph.D. in Botany at Bodoland University under the supervision of Dr. Sanjib Baruah, Assistant Prof. Department of Botany, Bodoland University.

Her research interests include plant taxonomy, ethnobotany, plant anatomy, biodiversity, and floristic studies. She has published 11 research papers in reputed national and international journals and contributed 3 book chapters. She has over five years of teaching and 7 years of research experience. In addition, she has successfully guided several M.Sc. dissertations, fostering research skills among undergraduate and postgraduate students. She has attended several wokshops and seminers. She has also presented papers at national and international conferences and was awarded as Best Oral Presenter at National seminar on Plant Taxonomy and Traditional Knowledge in the Himalayas and North-East India held on 21-22 February 2022 jointly organised by Department of Botany, Rajib Gandhi University, East Himalayan Society of Spermatophytes Taxonomy and Botanical Survey of India.

Dr. Bhuyan has previously worked as a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in a mega project funded by the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Government of India, at Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Itanagar, CCRAS, Govt. of Ayush. She has experience in conducting extensive floristic and ethno botanical surveys across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and has actively collaborated with several environmental NGOs in biodiversity and conservation-related initiatives.

Beyond academics, she is also an NCC “C” Certificate holder, reflecting her commitment to discipline and leadership.
