Biography

Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar is a distinguished Indian conservation biologist and environmental leader, best known as the founder and Secretary General of Aaranyak, one of Northeast India’s foremost biodiversity conservation organizations. Since establishing Aaranyak in 1989, he has dedicated his career to protecting wildlife, particularly focusing on the conservation of the greater one-horned rhino and other endangered species in Assam and surrounding regions.

Talukdar holds a Master’s degree in Biology from Gauhati University and has played a pivotal role in anti-poaching initiatives, rhino monitoring, and habitat restoration. He introduced innovative conservation tools such as K9 sniffer dog units and has been active in strengthening wildlife law enforcement through training and advocacy.

He currently chairs the IUCN Asian Rhino Specialist Group and advises several national and international conservation bodies, including the International Rhino Foundation. His leadership and impactful work have earned him prestigious honors like the Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership and recognition as an Ashoka Fellow.

Through his efforts, Dr. Talukdar has significantly contributed to biodiversity conservation, policy development, and community engagement, making him a key figure in wildlife protection in India and beyond.
