Dr. Ajanta Deka joined the Department of Physics, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (now Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU)) in July, 2008. She obtained her B.Sc. degree in Physics (Honours) from Cotton College (now Cotton University) in 1996 and her M.Sc. degree in Physics from IIT Delhi in 1999. She had an opportunity to work as a researcher in the field of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany in two stints – May, 2003 to October, 2004 and May, 2007 to November, 2007. Subsequently, she obtained her Ph.D. degree in November, 2011 in the field of Theoretical study of Nanoclusters from Tezpur University with a collaboration with TUM, Germany. Her areas of research include Density Functional Theory, Theoretical study of Nanomaterials, Catalysis and Atmospheric Science. Dr. Deka has published 14 research papers in reputed international and national journals and 3 book chapters. She has completed two sponsored research projects by AICTE and MHRD, New Delhi, respectively. She has been recognized as a Ph.D. supervisor under Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) and GCU. She has served as the Head (Incharge) of the Department of Physics, GIMT from 1st August, 2016 to 31st March, 2023.
Dr. Deka is a passionate teacher and an avid reader and researcher. Her other interests include Indian Knowledge System (IKS) approaches for well-being and holistic development and language proficiency.
