Ahana Choudhury joined the Department of Sociology and Social Work as Assistant Professor in August 2025. She is a Doctorate in Sociology from Tezpur University, Assam and completed her graduation and postgraduation in Sociology from the University of Delhi, in the year 2017 and 2019, respectively. She was a Senior Research Fellow, UGC in 2024, awarded Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Single Girl Child Fellowship. She was also a Youth and Democracy Fellow at the Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), New Delhi, from 2019-20 and conducted research on the social impacts of information disorder during COVID-19 pandemic in India. Over the course of her academic career, she interned with various social organizations like Child Rights and You (CRY) and statutory bodies like the Delhi Commission for Women, New Delhi. Besides, she worked as a Research Associate for different projects with agencies and institutions like UNICEF Assam in 2020 and IIT Delhi from February to April, 2025. She conducted research and coordinated activities and events on tribal development in India as a part of Start Mahakumbh Exposure Visit 2025, held at IIT Delhi. Her primary research interests involve aging and care, urban sociology, ethnic studies, digitalization and society and sociology of emotions.
Ahana Choudhuryconducted her doctoral work on social care and aging processes in Kolkata, India, shaped through the ayah-centres and is currently expanding her research in Guwahati. She has many publications to her credit in reputed national and international journals, ranging on topics of care, ethnic conflicts and migration. She also actively writes for popular platforms like Doing Sociology, Youth ki Awaz and The New Leam. She also demonstrated her teaching abilities with the Teaching Assistantship programme at Tezpur University in 2023.
