The students of the Department of Economics, Girijananda Chowdhury University, conducted a field visit to Kopili picnic spot on 5th February 2025 to study the after-effects of the picnic season on the environment and analyze the livelihood patterns of the local tribal population. This visit was aimed at understanding the environmental impact of mass tourism and the socio-economic conditions of the indigenous communities residing in the vicinity. The students of both undergraduate and post graduate programmes actively participated in the field visit. Dr.Dhriti Borah, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Girijananda Chowdhury University and Dr. Ummey Rummana Barlaskar, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Girijananda Chowdhury University accompanied and guided the students in the field visit. The students observed and discussed the environmental degradation of the locality as an after-effect of picnic season. The livelihood of the people residing in the locality are primarily seasonal, mostly dependent on the available natural resources. Each of the students prepared a report on the field visit with some policy prescriptions.
