The Gender Sensitization Cell of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Girijananda Chowdhury University-Tezpur Campus organized an insightful invited talk on the crucial topic of “Gender and Mental Health” on the 8th of November, 2024. The event, which aimed to raise awareness and foster discussions around the intersection of gender identity and mental well-being, was held in an engaging and interactive format.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mousumi Mahanta, an Assistant Professor at the Chandraprabha Saikia Centre for Women Studies, Tezpur University. Dr. Mahanta, a seasoned expert in the field, brought her extensive knowledge and experience to address various aspects of gender and its impact on mental health.
Dr. Mahanta delivered an engaging lecture on understanding gender identity from biological, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives, highlighting mental health disparities across gender groups, the crucial role of social support in gender and mental health and the importance of gender-sensitive mental healthcare.
Prof. Abdul Baquee Ahmed, Principal of SOPS, GCU-Tezpur campus in his welcome speech emphasized the relevance of this topic in today’s society, underscoring the need for increased awareness and understanding to support those facing gender-specific mental health challenges.
