The concept of laser printing originated from work done by Xerox in the 1960s. The first laser printer was developed by Gary Starkweather at Xerox in 1969, who combined laser printing with xerographic (dry toner) printing.
In 1971, Xerox released its first commercial laser printer – the Xerox 9700. However, these early models were very expensive and not affordable by vast majority of individual users.
In 1981, Canon and Hewlett-Packard (HP) worked together to develop a personal laser printer that came to be known as the HP Laserjet printer.
By early 2000s, laserjet printers had firmly established themselves as the preferred choice for fast, high quality printing in offices and homes, particularly for text-heavy documents.
Today, laser printers are widely used for both business and personal purposes. Modern models are equipped with advanced features like cloud printing, mobile printing, and high-yield toner cartridges, making them highly efficient and cost-effective.
