An educational excursion from the 26th to the 29th of March to Digboi for the 8th-semester students

The Department of Electrical Engineering, GCU, Guwahati, organized an educational excursion from the 26th to the 29th of March to Digboi for the 8th-semester students. The visit was coordinated by Ms. Pallavi Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of EE, and accompanied by Mr. Rupam Sarmah, laboratory instructor, Department of EE, and nine 8th-semester students.

The first day started with a visit to the Digboi Oil Museum, followed by visits to the Digboi Cemetery, Centenary Park, and Gangotri Udyan, On the second day, they started their journey towards Namsai, to visit the Golden Pagoda, also known as Kongmu Kham,The day ended with a visit to the Dhola Sadiya Bridge, India’s longest river bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River.

On the third day the students were given a guided tour of the Margherita Coalfields (Tirap Colliaries, CIL), where they witnessed the process of coal extraction. This was followed by a visit to Powai Tea Factory which comprised of an overview of the tea production process, from plucking to packaging.

The fourth day comprised a daylong tour of the Digboi refinery. Interactions with refinery personnel provided valuable insights into the technical and logistical challenges of operating a refinery of this magnitude.

The excursion trip to Digboi, Margherita, Namsai, and the Dhola Sadiya Bridge was a resounding success, offering the students a holistic experience encompassing history, culture, and infrastructure.
