The campaign aimed to tackle the growing issue of substance abuse among the youth and sensitize the student community to the harmful effects of drug and alcohol addiction.
A total of 27 participants were involved in the campaign,including 16 student members and 3 faculty members of the Social Welfare Club and 8 NSS Unit-2 volunteer.
As part of the ongoing efforts,a play was also organized by students of the Social Welfare Club. It served as an impactful medium to communicate the consequences of addiction and the importance of living a healthy,responsible life.
The performance attracted a large audience and garnered appreciation for its powerful message.Students also displayed posters highlighting the dangers of substance abuse,its long-term consequences,and prevention methods.
The guest of the event Dr. Shyamanta Kalita,Senior Medical and Health Officer at Sualkuchi Mahatma Gandhi Rural Hospital,explained how prolonged substance abuse affects the body.
He also highlighted the strong connection between substance abuse and mental health issues like depression, anxiety, increased suicide risk etc.An interactive session was conducted to address audience concerns and questions related to addiction and its effects.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Jogesh Deka,Vice Principal of Sualkuchi Budram Madhab Satradhikar College.The increasing prevalence of substance abuse among youth has become a matter of concern.This initiative by GCU aimed to educate students about its harmful effects,thereby contributing to the creation of a safer and healthier community.
The entire process was conducted smoothly under the guidance of the Social Welfare Club Coordinator at GCU, Mrs. Manjula Kalita.
