A day long programme on the theme “Many Voices, One Science” was organized by the Department of Chemistry, Girijananda Chowdhury University in line with IUPAC-Global Women’s Breakfast and U.N. International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 10th February, 2026. On the occasion, honourable Dean of Natural Sciences, Professor Sunayan Bordoloi inaugurated the wall magazine of the department of Chemistry, GCU and inspired the students and audience with his valuable speech. The welcome address of the event was delivered by Dr. Nirmala Devi, Associate professor, Department of Chemistry, GCU, who discussed on guiding principles of responsible Chemistry with emphasis on role of chemists and scientists to achieve SDGs.
Resource person Dr Annesha Kar, Assistant professor, Department of Chemistry, Guwahati College, Bamunimaidam delivered an online lecture on “Turning Plastic Waste into Value: Chemical Recycling and the Circular Economy”, which was moderated by Dr. Suranjan Patowary, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, GCU. Students and research scholars of the department discussed on the topic with the resource person Dr Annesha Kar and faculties of the department Dr. Swarnali Pathak (HOD) and Dr Kajal Dutta. The event catalysed to raise awareness in general sensitivity in gender equality, inspired youngsters to build career in science and engineering and develop competencies and scientific skills necessary for societal change leading to sustainability with responsible science.
