Biography

Dr. Jafreen Haque is an Assistant Professor of Law with academic and professional experience in the fields of criminal law, juvenile justice, human rights and allied areas of legal studies. She holds an LL.M. in Criminal Law from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, and a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. She has also qualified SLET (Law).

Dr. Haque completed her Ph.D. in Law from National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. Her doctoral research, titled “An Analytical Study on the Juvenile Justice System in India with Particular Reference to Child in Conflict with Law in Assam,” focuses on the legal and institutional dimensions of juvenile justice and the protection of children in conflict with law.

She was associated with NERIM from 2021 before joining Centre for Legal Studies, Girijananda Chowdhury University. During her tenure, apart from teaching various law papers, she served as Convenor for the past 3 years, contributing to administrative and institutional activities alongside her academic responsibilities. She was also briefly associated with the Fairfield Institute of Management, New Delhi, as an Assistant Professor immediately after her post-graduation and has also served as a Guest Faculty in Dispur Law College.
Her research interests include juvenile justice, criminal justice, child rights, human rights, gender justice, and emerging issues in technology and law. She has published research articles in legal journals and contributed to chapters on the constitutional and human rights dimensions of menstrual health among women prisoners.

Dr. Haque is committed to teaching, research, and academic engagement, with a particular interest in interdisciplinary and socially relevant areas of law.
