Dr. Deepshikha Saikia is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences (SAAS) since 17 th August, 2026. Her area of interest is Plant Breeding and Genetics, Agricultural Biotechnology, Agricultural Biochemistry, and Crop Physiology. She has also explored allied fields such as Plant Pathology, Nematology, and Agricultural Extension. She completed her Ph.D. (Agri.) from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam, with her thesis on micronutrient profiling of rice genotypes and their response to low water stress. She did her M.Sc. (Agri.) and B.Sc. (Agri.), also from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. She also brings teaching experience, having served as a Teaching Assistant in the Agriculture Programme at Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya (BSSRV). Apart from her academic qualifications, she has completed a number of trainings, workshops and seminars on topics such as smart breeding, climate-smart rice breeding, and recent advances in plant biotechnology.
She is well-versed in laboratory and analytical techniques including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR and qPCR analysis, and is keenly interested in academic writing, having contributed a number of papers and book chapters to various journals and publications. Beyond academics, she has a keen interest in painting and learning new languages. She is a dedicated and detail-oriented researcher, committed to advancing knowledge in plant sciences and agricultural biotechnology, with a strong interest in furthering both her academic contributions and practical field experience for the growth of the agricultural community.
