15th August, 2025: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Assam celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with immense fervour, pride and patriotic spirit on 15th August 2025. The celebration was marked with a series of events that reflected the values of unity, discipline and respect for the nation. For the first time in the history of the University, an NCC Rifle Parade was displayed, which stood as a vibrant demonstration of discipline, teamwork, and unity. The parade platoon, marching with pride and honour, symbolised the indomitable spirit of the students and their dedication towards the nation.
The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries including the President of the SSA Society, the Honourable Chancellor of GCU, the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of GCU, the Registrar of GCU, along with faculty members, staff and students of the University. The National Flag was hoisted by the President of the SSA Society, followed by the inspection of the Guard of Honour presented by the NCC. This was succeeded by inspiring speeches delivered by the Honourable Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, who highlighted the significance of the day and encouraged the youth to uphold the values of freedom and responsibility. As a part of the celebration, Indian Flag badges were distributed to all students, instilling a sense of belongingness and national pride among the young minds.
The Independence Day celebration at GCU was thus not only a tribute to the freedom fighters and the nation’s glorious history but also a platform to instil discipline, patriotism and awareness among the students. The event concluded with a cultural programme showcasing patriotic songs and performances, which further strengthened the spirit of nationalism among everyone present.
