Prof. Abdul Baquee Ahmed stands as an influential figure in the field of pharmaceutical education and research, with a distinguished career spanning various roles and accomplishments.
As the Principal of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at GCU, Tezpur, Prof. Ahmed has been instrumental since the institution’s inception in 2020. His leadership has contributed to shaping the academic and research landscape of the school.
Prof. Ahmed’s academic journey is marked by his commitment to excellence. He completed his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. from the esteemed Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Dibrugarh University. He received the Indian Drug Manufacturer’s Association IDMA-GP NAIR AWARD certificate of Merit with a Plaque for standing first in the final B. Pharm examination held by Dibrugarh University in 2000 and stood first class second position in the M. Pharm examination held by Dibrugarh University in 2006. With a strong foundation in academia, he went on to accrue three years of industrial experience, followed by a remarkable 17-year journey in teaching and research.
Starting as a Lecturer at Rofel, Shri G. M. Bilakhia College of Pharmacy in Vapi, Gujarat, Prof. Ahmed’s career path took him to Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) in Guwahati. Here, he progressed from an Assistant Professor to the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutics, and later, as the Department Head of Diploma in Pharmacy. His expertise was further acknowledged with promotions to the positions of Associate Professor and, eventually, Professor cum Principal at the newly established Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science-Tezpur, later known as the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tezpur, under Girijananda Chowdhury University.
Prof. Ahmed’s influence extends to the field of research guidance. With over 12 years of post-Ph.D. research experience, he is a recognized Ph.D. Research Guide at esteemed universities such as Gauhati University (since 2013), Assam Science and Technology University (since 2016), and Girijananda Chowdhury University (since 2022). His dedication to nurturing young researchers is evident, having successfully guided three Ph.D. scholars while currently mentoring seven more.
His scholarly contributions are noteworthy. Prof. Ahmed’s portfolio boasts 41 research papers, reviews, and book chapters published in international and Indian journals indexed in prestigious platforms like Scopus and Web of Science. His endeavors have been recognized with sponsorships and grants from prominent bodies like AICTE and MHRD, Govt. of Indiafor a Project grant and MODROB scheme (NER) with a cumulative value of rupees 38.8 Lakhs.
Prof. Ahmed’s quest for knowledge has led him to actively participate in conferences, seminars, workshops, and faculty development programs. Both as a participant and speaker, he contributes to the intellectual discourse and academic growth of the field. Adding to it, hewas awarded the Chartered Management Institute Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership and was selected for the AICTE-United Kingdom Indian Education Research Initiative (AICTE-UKIERI) Technical Leadership Development Program for the academic year 2018-19.

Moreover, his genuine inclination towards forming connections with new people showcases his social and approachable demeanor. Prof. Ahmed’s ability to establish rapport and build relationships is a witness to his charismatic personality, and it reflects his natural curiosity about people and their experiences which undoubtedly contributes to his success as an educator, mentor, and leader in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
