Dr. Gour Gopal Banik is currently working as Professor in the Department of Commerce, Girijananda Chowdhury University, Guwahati, Assam.He had initially started his formal teaching career in Assam Institute of Managementas a Guest Faculty, where he taught Cost Accounting to ICWA (CMA) Intermediate Students for a brief period of three months. Thereafter, he joined Gauhati Commerce College,(Gauhati University), Assam as Lecturer in a Permanent Post in the Department of Accountancy. He is having an extensive experience of long 32 years of Teaching different subjects e.g., Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting,Environmental Accounting, Auditing, Income Tax, Indirect Taxes, GST, Financial Management, Legal Environment of Business, Intellectual Property Rights, Contract Act etc. He has also served as the Head of the Department of Accountancy of Gauhati Commerce College.
Prof. Banik had also served as Deputy Director of the Institute of Distance and Open Leaning (IDOL), Gauhati University. His educational qualifications include M.Com(Accountancy & Taxation), M.A. (English), Nipun (Vocal Music), LL.B., I.C.W.A. (Inter),and Ph.D.
He has also already completed his three years’ Articleship Training of Chartered Accountancy Course under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and passed a group of the Intermediate Examination.
Prof. Banik is a Recognised Ph.D Guide in the Department of Commerce, Gauhati University. Under his guidance, Seven Research Scholars have already been awarded Ph.D Degree and Four other Scholars have been pursuing Ph.D Research under his supervision.
He has presented Research Papers in various National and International Seminars and Webinars and several of his Research Papers have been published in various National and International Research Journals.
Prof. Banik is frequently invited by different Universities, Colleges, Government Departments and other Institutions to be the Resource Person and/or Keynote Speaker in National and International Seminars / Webinars as well as Visiting Faculty (Online). He is also invited by different Television Channels including DD North East to participate in various Talk Shows on Current Economic, Educational and similar other issues.
Prof. Banik is frequently invited by various universities as external examiner of Ph.D Thesis and also as expert in Ph.D Viva-voce Examinations. He is also frequently invited by different universities as Resource Person to take classes of Ph.D Course Work. Apart from Academics, his interest encircles within its orbit various other co-curricular activities like Music, Yoga, Body-Building, Swimming, Creative Writing, Acting, Motivational Speech, Vlogging etc. His latest English novel, “MASTER OF THE FATE” published in January, 2025 has earned praise from the readers of both India and abroad. Prof. Banik has visited abroad altogether Six times. South Korea (in 2019), Indonesia (in 2022) and Philippines (in 2024) for Bodybuilding Competitions and Singapore (in 2023) and Thailand (in 2023 and 2024) for being the Invited Resource Person in International Conferences.
Prof. Banik has participated in various national and international bodybuilding competitions and won prizes. He bagged the 2nd Runners Up Prize in 2024 WFF Asia Pacific Championship in International Bodybuilding Competition in held in Manila, Philippines on 31st August and 1st September, 2024.
It may be mentioned here that Prof. Banik has received the following awards:
(i) “BEST PAPER AWARD” in the 8th International Gita Seminar organised by Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana held on 17th to 19th December, 2023 on the Paper titled as “Striking a Balance Between Business Ethics and Profitability: Insights from Bhagavad Gita.”
(ii) “BEST TEACHER AND RESEARCHER IN ACCOUNTANCY AWARD” on 27th January, 2024 in Thailand.
(iii) “RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AWARD” on 28th February, 2024 by Govt. Digvijay Autonomous P.G. College, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh
