Biography

Dr. Bhaswati Sarmah joined the Department of Political Science, Girijananda Chowdhury University as an Assistant Professor on July 26, 2023. Her area of interest covers International Relations, India’s Foreign Policy, Soft Power, Diaspora Studies, Refugee Studies, Human Rights, Public Administration and Indian Political Thought.

She graduated from Cotton College, Guwahati in Political Science and Post Graduation from Cotton College State University, Guwahati. She obtained another Post-Graduation degree from IDOL, Gauhati University in Political Science and completed her B.Ed. from Gauhati University. She was awarded the M.Phil. and PhD degrees from the Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, Sikkim University. She has also presented her research papers in several International and National Seminars and Conferences and published her research articles in journals and books.

She started her teaching career in 2015 at IDOL Study Centre, Tangla College but quit after six months to pursue her M.Phil. After submitting her M.Phil. dissertation, she joined Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department and also became the Program Coordinator of the National Service Scheme Unit. She left the job to complete her PhD and after completing PhD she joined S.B. Deorah College, Guwahati as Assistant Professor (Contractual) before joining GCU.

Apart from her academic engagements, she continues to write articles in magazines and newspapers. Along with writing, she is passionate about painting, crafting and travelling. She also collaborates with an NGO that aids the less fortunate as she supports making modest but significant contributions to society. She always values her relationship with her students.
