Dr. Aswini Kumar Sarma, Secretary-General of United Nations Associations Guwahati visited Girijananda Chowdhury University on Tuesday and spoke on the vital importance of the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the stellar work it has been doing in promoting international cooperation in education, arts, science and culture.
He also discussed the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted by all UN member states in 2015 as an urgent call for action to solve the most fundamental human problems – poverty, inequality, climate change, health and education and many others. Prof. Jayanta Deka, Hon’ble Chancellor of GCU, also spoke on the various initiatives undertaken by UNESCO in the context of world peace and cooperation.
