Girijananda Chowdhury University organized National Doctor’s Day in association with Pratishruti Cancer & Palliative Trust to commemorate the significance of the day in light of the theme “Celebrating Resilience and Healing Hands.” Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Kandarpa Das, GCU delivered the welcome address to honour the contributions of doctors and medical professionals for the well-being of the society. He highlighted the purpose of the National Doctor’s Day which marks the birth and death anniversary of the great physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. The event was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Dinesh Goswami, Palliative Care Consultant at Guwahati, Pain and Palliative Care Society, Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Mridul K Sharma, Head & Neck Oncologist, GMCH and Nabanita Kalita, Senior Journalist, Prag News. All the invited guests and Doctors were felicitated for their valuable contributions and selfless service. The invited guests delivered insightful lectures to serve in the field of cancer and palliative care, with the objective to empower community with a positive approach to combat cancer. They also emphasized on media’s role in sensitizing and creating awareness among the people. Hon’ble Chancellor, GCU, Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain delivered the concluding address expressing gratitude to the vital role of doctor’s in saving lives and promoting overall wellness of the society. Dr. Suman Hazarika, Prof. Dipankar Saha, Prof. S. Robert Ravi, health workers, invited guests, executive members and volunteers of Pratishruti Cancer & Palliative Trust along with all the teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students of GCU were present in the event.
