A press meet announcing GCU’s pioneering Centre for Wildlife & Environmental Studies was held at Guwahati

A press meet announcing Girijananda Chowdhury University’s pioneering Centre for Wildlife & Environmental Studies was held at Guwahati Press Club on 8th November, 2024. This landmark initiative by GCU will be officially inaugurated on 19th November with a two-day long programme that will be graced by Hon’ble Minister of Environment and Forest, Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary as Chief Guest.

The recent press meet was convened by two of our faculty members Dr. Basab Das and Mrs. Monirupa Mishra, who explained the vision behind setting up of this one-of-its kind center dedicated to wildlife and environment conversation. The launch programme has been conceptualised as an enriching event where experts from the field will deliberate and discuss key environmental issues, even as various events and contests centered on the key theme of wildlife exploration have been organised for the student fraternity.

The Centre for Wildlife & Environmental Studies is designed to be a multidisciplinary hub that brings together students, faculty, researchers, grassroots organisations, community partners and government agencies to foster innovative research, training and awareness about wildlife protection and environmental safety and sustainability. The Centre aims to equip future leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate these complex issues.

The Centre will focus on several key objectives, including promoting research excellence, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, engaging in biodiversity conservation, education and training as well as community engagement.

In addition, there will be an exhibition on the central theme, accompanied with the screening of a wildlife documentary as well as a cultural function during the event.
