The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, GCU, Guwahati, Assam, organized a three-days workshop on “Alephium Development – A Blockchain Technology” from October 3rd to 5th, 2024. The event aimed to familiarize participants with the fundamentals of blockchain, its real-world applications, and its potential to revolutionize various industries. Resourse Person of the event was Mr Jesu Neelkamal Borah, Web3 Ecosystem Lead, Blymo and Mr Shyam Prasad, Blockchain Developer at Evident Capital, a Hong-Kong Based Startup and Core member of Web3Assam Community.
The workshop began with a felicitation ceremony. Head of the CSE Department, Dr. Minakshi Gogoi, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of staying updated with the latest technological trends like blockchain. Total 43 students participated in the workshop in a group of 2-3 members.
The session was divided into theoretical discussions and hands-on practical activities.
Day 1 covered Introduction to blockchain and Alephium. Setting up the developer’s environment (Docker, Node.js, npm, TypeScript, VS Code) and Introduction to Ralph language.
Day 2 covered protocols vs clients in web development and their relationship with new age blockchain technology centralization vs decentralization. Real world use cases of blockchain. Brief idea of traceability and blockchain use cases in Assam. Students built a decentralized application. After that students participated in a Bug Bounty contest in a team of 2-3 students to test their knowledge on the workshop and show their skills as per the assigned tasks.
Day 3 concluded with the valedictory session, where participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback and expressed keen interest in further exploring the technology. During the session, the Head of the CSE Department announced the winners of the contest held on Day 2 and distributed certificates along with cash prizes. The program was successfully coordinated by Ms. Manjula Kalita, along with co-coordinator Ms. Gargee Chakravarty, both Assistant Professors in the CSE Department.
