Field Visit to Organizations – Department of Sociology and Social Work – 3rd October, 2024

Department of Sociology and Social Work organized a field trip to two non-governmental organizations situated in Birubari, Guwahati on the 3rd of October, 2024 as part of the Orientation Programme. The organizations visited are ShishuSarothi, a registered organisation working for and with children and persons with disabilities in Assam and NE India and ShishuGreh, a Specialized Adoption Agency that takes care of in-country and inter-country adoptions.

It was a good day of learning where the students were sensitized about the different needs and concerns of children with disability and the services provided by the NGO in the Day Care Centre. Ms. Mridula and Mr. Kandarpa Kr. Nath staff of the organization accompanied the students in two groups to all the sections and units, including the vocational unity wheremany of our students purchased beautiful decorative art and craft pieces made by the children with disability. Students were given opportunity for sharing their observations made during the visit in an interactive session led by the Executive Director, Ms. Ketaki Bardalai.

Ms. Anamika Das, the Coordinator of ShishuGreh, explained the detailed process involved in adoption from perspectives related to the child and also the prospective adoptive parents. The safeguard measures to protect the child placed in adoption was also discussed.

About 31 students from Social Work, Sociology and Psychology under-graduate and post-graduate programmes were accompanied by three faculty members, Dr. Rachel Kabi, Ms. RItuparna Choudhary and Ms. Mona Marbaniang
