Biography

Ms. Mona Alice Marbaniang is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at Girijananda Chowdhury University. She embarked on her journey in the social work industry in 2012 as an undergraduate student. She pursued a Master’s degree in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences- Guwahati Campus, specializing in Community Organization and Development Practice, where she gained comprehensive experience in community work. Her dedication to the field led her to pursue an MPhil in psychiatric social work from LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur, during which she engaged in conducting diagnostic evaluations, family and psychosocial assessments, and developing non-pharmacological treatment plans for patients and intervention plans for families. She facilitated and conducted numerous group therapies, such as support groups, stigma reduction sessions, and psychoeducation for family members, as well as therapeutic recreation groups for patients. Additionally, she provided individual, family, and couples therapy, assisted patients in rehabilitation centres, and reintegrated homeless patients back with family members or NGOs. During the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, she provided tele-counseling to support those in need. After gaining expertise in mental health through her MPhil, she pursued a PhD in social work at Tezpur University. Her research focused on ‘Psychosocial Intervention for Mothers of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder,’ during which she developed a psychosocial intervention module to be used in the study. Throughout her academic and professional career, Ms. Marbaniang has published several papers in reputable journals, contributing valuable insights to the field of social work. Ms. Mona Alice Marbaniang has demonstrated comprehensive engagement in social work, with extensive experience in both community and mental health sectors.
