Biography

Dr. Damiki Laloo possesses an experience of over 12 years of experience as an academician and researcher, with a specialized focus on the realm of natural products and Pharmacognosy. Currently, he holds the esteemed position of Professor cum Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences within Girijananda Chowdhury University, located in Guwahati, Assam, India. He is deeply engaged in imparting education across a spectrum of programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, where his teachings encompass subjects ranging from pharmacognosy and phytochemistry to herbal drug technology and industrial pharmacognosy. Beyond his pedagogical pursuits, he is actively involved in steering the university’s administrative functions and has recently taken on the role of Director of the Research and Development Cell.

Dr. Laloo earned both his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the esteemed Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He stands as a recipient of the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, conferred by the Government of India, which supported his Ph.D. journey spanning from 2009 to 2013. Throughout his tenure pursuing postgraduate and doctoral studies, he played a pivotal role in shaping the research and development landscape of his department, contributing through active research, publication endeavors, and participation in conferences.

In 2012, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Government of India acknowledged his contributions by granting him an international travel grant, facilitating his presentation of research at the ‘Phytopharm’ international platform in St. Petersburg, Russia. Following the completion of his Ph.D., he continued to serve as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ayurvedic Pharmacy at Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, BHU, Uttar Pradesh, India, from 2012 to 2015. Since 2015 and up to the present date, Dr. Laloo has taken on the role of an esteemed reviewer for numerous reputable journals published by renowned international publishers such as Elsevier, Wiley, Springer Nature, and Bentham Science.

In addition to his academic achievements, he has actively disseminated his research findings as a resource person at various national and international conferences and symposiums. Over time, he has authored multiple book chapters and contributed as an author or co-author to more than 50 research articles published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals, accumulating an impactful collective factor exceeding 100, alongside garnering more than 1600 citations. Dr. Laloo is leading an additional external project funded by AICTE, GoI, valued at Rs. 21 lakhs, in the role of principal investigator. Additionally, he holds membership in the project implementation group responsible for carrying out research funded by DST-FIST, GoI, with a total budget of Rs. 110 lakhs. Notably, Dr. Laloo is acknowledged as a supervisor by both Assam Science and Technology University and Girijananda Chowdhury University, Assam. Presently, he is providing guidance to a cohort of four students. His research scope encompasses subjects like Phytochemistry, Phytomedicine, Ethnomedicine, Ethnopharmacology, as well as innovative approaches such as novel topical drug delivery utilizing natural active components.
